Yamaha’s Aussie Superbike standout Jamie Stauffer has again performed exceptionally well in his second and final AMA Superstock outing, finishing an impressive 4th in the final race and round of the year. Stauffer’s performance was no flash in the pan – he had maintained top 5 finishes in all previous practice and qualifying sessions, and capably guided his YZF-R1 to the finish line, once again the second Yamaha rider home.
His ability to instantly adjust to an racetrack environment of dramatic contrast to the Australian scene has impressed many, and will no doubt leave rival Superstock riders scratching their heads at his pace and professionalism. Jamie was 5th in Friday practice and backed up solidly in qualifying with another 5th. He was in his element in race trim also, and kept close to the frontrunning battlepack for the duration of the race.
Proceedings were cut short 5 laps from home, when on lap 12 the red flags signalled an end to the race with an oil spillage causing dramas for the lead riders. Stauffer stayed cool under pressure all weekend, and indeed for both of his AMA Superstock outings at some of the United States’ most challenging tracks. Incredibly, he never finished outside the top 5 in any practice, qualifying or race at both Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca.
