Chad Reed earns over award wages
Chad Reed has been ranked by BRW Magazine as the sixth highest Australian sporting earner for the second year in a row, taking home AU$7.8m in 2007.
Australian Supercross sensation Chad Reed has been ranked by Business Review Weekly Magazine as the sixth highest Australian sporting earner for the second year in a row, taking home AU$7.8m in 2007.
Reed is in the top echelon of local personalities who have made it big on the international stage in a range of sporting pursuits. Only Formula 1 driver Mark Webber ($8.4m) is ranked higher than Reed in the field of motorsport, sitting in fourth place. Reed polled ahead of AMA Superbike star Mat Mladin ($6.6m) and MotoGP champion Casey Stoner ($4.4m).
His earnings could have potentially skyrocketed well above Webber’s total had he not opted to sit out the entire season of the AMA motocross series to focus on fitness and Supercross preparation. His most recent success came at the Bercy International Supercross France, which he won convincingly. In addition to this, Reed is the only Australian motorsport megastar to actively commit to competing in and raising the profile of his sport in his home country.
This year, Reed returned home to compete in a round of the national motocross series. In 2008, he will compete in all rounds of the newly-incepted Australasian Supercross Series, in which he has invested significant time and resources. In ensuring the successful reestablishment of the sport of Supercross in Australia, Reed has partnered with Mike Porra, the man behind the success of the Uncle Toby’s Super Series and the Crusty Demons of Dirt tour.
Porra’s success has seen him take the Uncle Toby’s sponsored Iron Man Series to the number one recalled sport sponsorship over a period of 13 years and position the Crusty Demons of Dirt tour as one of the biggest touring acts of all time – outselling pop acts such as U2 and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Less than a month remains before Reed will kick off his 2008 AMA and World SX Campaigns, in a bid to reclaim the trophies he won in 2004.
