Cam Sinclair to attempt longest Backflip
Cam Sinclair is to attempt the World Record for longest backflip jump at the Crusty Demons Night of World Records at Calder Park in Melbourne on Saturday 29 March 2008.
The eyes of the world will be on Calder Park in Melbourne on Saturday 29 March 2008 when Robbie Maddison represents the green and gold and takes on Americans Seth Enslow and Ryan Capes for the longest distance ever jumped on a motorbike at the Crusty Demons Night of World Records.
However, the feat made famous by Evel Knievel 40 years ago is just one of the records which are sure to gain worldwide attention on the record breaking night.
Cam Sinclair from the Melbourne suburb of Pearcedale is one of the standout riders on the Crusty Demons tour and is the Dual King of the Coast and 2007 Australian FMX Championship winner. He has been training hard for what promises to be one of the most spectacular record attempts on the night when he will attempt to claim the longest back flip on a motorbike ramp to ramp.
The world record for this death-defying trick currently stands at 125 feet and is held by the “Godfather’ of FMX, Mike Metzger. Metzger sensationally set the record as part of the launch for Mission Impossible 3 where he back flipped ramp to ramp over the fountain at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas as it was televised live on ESPN in 2006.
“It really is an honour to be attempting to break a record set by Metzger. He is one of the biggest legends in our sport,” said 23-year-old Sinclair. “It is going to make it even more incredible doing it in front of my home crowd in Melbourne and hopefully creating a world record which will stand for a very long time. I know the crowd will be cheering me on and I know they will be blown away by the trick."
Sinclair said a vital part in his ability to make the jump will be with the ramp design which is being purpose built to allow the riders to generate distance.
“Like all FMX tricks there is an element of danger with the back flip, especially when you consider the speed which I will need to generate off the ramp in order to go the distance of 125 feet. However, I am ready for this and know that I can pull of an awesome feat that people will remember,” Sinclair added.
Also competing for a world record is Australia’s most notable stunt man, Matt Mingay who will saddle up on his road bike for four world records. The Gold-Coast based rider has already gone into the Guinness Book of World Records after taking the title for the fastest stoppie (211km/h for 65 metres), longest rolling burnout (1650 metres in 1.50 minutes),most donuts (24 donuts in 60 seconds) and fastest wheelie (225 km/h for one kilometre).
“There is certainly a lot of credibility that comes with obtaining a Guinness World Record and I am looking forward to reclaiming my records at Calder Park at the end of March,” Mingay said. “It was definitely a career highlight for me to claim four records in 2005 and I can’t wait for the chance to once again go for the honour in front of the Guinness World Record judges.”
