Reed Keeps Championship Within Reach Despite Injury
14th January 2007
Australian Supercross sensation Chad Reed has recorded his second consecutive podium at Round 2 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series in Phoenix Arizona today.
The Yamaha rider, who is still recovering from a testing crash that left him unconscious and with substantial shoulder and collarbone injuries, rode strategically to keep his championship hopes alive. His 3rd place overall has kept him in touch with the other championship contenders.
Whilst trying to give his injuries as much healing time as possible Reed rode minimal laps on Wednesday before getting back on the bike today for practice. Reed rode a conservative heat race finishing 5th, but enough to guarantee him a spot in the Main Event.
In the Main Event, Reed left the line with the lead pack before the race was red flagged on Lap 3 after an incident left another rider receiving medial assistance in a precarious position on the track. Reed then made the most of the restart, putting his L&M/San Manuel Band of Mission Indians/Yamaha YZ450F to good use, establishing his third place early in the race.
Reed’s performance was a compromise to ensure that he accumulated as many points as possible while also making sure that his injuries were not aggravated.
“As far as I am concerned everything went to plan this evening,” Reed said. “I did what I had to do and I was happy to be able to stay in touch with the leaders and the championship tonight.”
“The shoulder is healing much better than what we thought at this point and I am confident it won’t be too long before I will be running at the front again.” “It is a long season, there are still 14 rounds to go,” Reed commented.
Tonight’s third place sees Reed sitting third in both the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series and the 2007 FIM World Supercross Grand Prix Series.
The Australian will continue recuperating ahead of Round 3 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series which will be held at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium on Saturday 20th January.
