Yamaha’s Young SX Racers get a Taste of the Big Time
23/2/2007
Yamaha’s commitment to the development of emerging young motocross riders will be in full force this weekend with members of the Queensland Yamaha Junior Development Team competing in the junior classes of the second round of the 2007 Australian Supercross Championship at Avalon this weekend.
Shaun Redhead and Sam Southey will compete on behalf of the squad in the 12 to 13 years Mini Lites and the 13 to 15 years Lites respectively. Both riders are looking forward to the challenge of racing at a national Supercross meeting and the experience can only benefit their development.
“It is important that we give our junior development riders the chance to experience all aspects of our sport,” said Yamaha Motorsport Division Manager, Cheryl Muldoon.
“Neither rider has had a great deal of Supercross experience but if results in the recent Queensland Stadium Motocross series are any indication, Redhead and Southey should have no trouble adapting to the more technical Supercross layout.”
“Both Shaun [Redhead] and Sam [Southey] will be pitted alongside the CDR and Serco teams and will have the opportunity to ride and learn alongside Yamaha’s pro racers. The activity will provide our senior Factory Team Managers, Craig Dack and Gavin Eales the opportunity to keep an eye on the performance of Yamaha Racing’s next generation of racers and provide the QYJDT with feedback on the current status of the program in achieving its goals.”
