Husky Chix Power On in 07
The first round of the increasingly popular Queensland Husqvarna Go Girl Series was run in near perfect dry and sunny conditions out at Kilcoy with 199 competitors taking to the start line. The new look Husky Chix team for 07 led by star rider Rebecca Bateman, team mate Jena Grimsey and new Junior Lites member 13 year old Courtney Knight stamped their impression amongst the field as riders to catch in the series.
Champion rider Rebecca Bateman turned it on in her 3 motos in the A grade Women’s class. She worked her TC250 into 3rd spot in the first moto and with determined effort in the 2nd, Bateman had a fall just prior to starting her penultimate lap which dropped her back to 5th with one moto remaining. Bateman held 3rd for most of the last moto but was overtaken on the run to the chequered flag to finish 4th. Bateman ended the day equal 3rd in the series behind unbeatable Ashlea Bates 1st, Tamara Gray 2nd and Steph Cutler equal 3rd.
“Coming equal 3rd is not bad and gives me something to aim for in the coming rounds. The TC250 is just awesome but I have to work on being more consistent with my lap times and eliminate silly mistakes. It was a great track to ride and the turnout was huge. It’s great to see such a good following for the series,” said Bateman after her 3rd moto.
Team mate Jena Grimsey had a top day out in her class, finishing on the third step of the podium behind Jamie Margie 1st and Kirsty Donpon 2nd. With 2 seconds and a 5th in her three motos, Grimsey has found early form that she is keen to improve on. Grimsey rode solid, consistent laps and commented, “I felt good out there today and I really liked the track. It made it hard to pass early on with only one dry line but opened up during the final two motos. I’m feeling comfortable on the bike and keen to continue improving.”
Newest Husky Chix member 13 your old Courtney Knight went out with all guns blazing in her first season on a TC250 with a second place in her first moto. Knight didn’t get the start she wanted in the second moto finishing in 7th and then 5th in the final moto. Knight claimed 5th overall in her first Junior Lites Go Girl round.
“I’m pretty happy with my results today but I would’ve liked to finish on the podium which I know I can achieve. I’m feeling more and more comfortable on the bigger bike so early on in the season having just stepped up from an 85cc."
The next race for Husky Chix Racing will be the 2nd round of the Queensland Husqvarna Go Girl Series to be held at Reedy Creek Saturday March 10, 2007.
