Yamaha’s Superbike standout Jamie Stauffer will travel to the United States to contest the final two rounds of the AMA Superbike Championship, it was announced today.
The reigning national Superbike and Supersport champ will compete at two of North America’s most iconic circuits, Road Atlanta (September 1-2) and Laguna Seca (September 15-16), assisted by a selection of his current crew and Yamaha Motor Australia (YMA) officials.
Earlier in the year, Jamie identified the AMA Superstock category as being an even and controlled class, with engine and chassis setup similar to that of Australia’s current Superbike specifications.
Yamaha Motor Australia, in keeping with the manufacturer’s global plan to assist riders in their pursuit of success in their chosen field, was pleased to assist Stauffer in securing the ride in order to display his racing prowess to an all-new market.
Steven Cotterell, Yamaha Motor Australia Director and General Manager, said Jamie’s venture to the states was a very exciting opportunity and one the manufacturer was pleased to support.
“Jamie is an immensely gifted rider and we are sure he will attract offers from a number of race teams,” said Cotterell. “While we would be sad to lose such a great ambassador for the sport in Australia, we are delighted to be able to help Jamie showcase his talent in order to step up to the next level in his career,” he said. “Australia has proved to be a great breeding ground of champions and YMA has played its part in providing a path for racers to develop onto the world stage. Should Jamie pursue his career abroad, we wish him all the best and will watch his career with interest while hoping that he keeps racing Yamahas!'
The Yamaha Racing Team will purpose-build an AMA-spec Superstock machine for Stauffer’s dual-round campaign, with tyre partner Dunlop also offering its support.Dunlop Australia tyre technician Aaron Jones will accompany the team to these rounds and is sure to be an invaluable member of the squad which is headed up by Jamie’s current crew chief Kev Marshall.The team will also receive the support of Yamaha Motor Corporation USA while abroad, which will include a visit to its workshop in between races.
Stauffer and his crew will pack their passports and jet to the ‘States following the conclusion of the Australian Superbike Championship, and be back in time to contest the popular MotoGP support round in mid-October. The AMA series is considered to be on par with the premier WSBK championship, and features tracks from all across North America, which differ greatly from the more established European circuits.
