Suzuki Australia has announced the imminent arrival of its 2008 RM two stroke motocross range, offering a sneak preview of the ever-popular machines.
RM85
Equipped with technology from Suzuki's championship-winning two-stroke motocross weapons, the junior-size RM85 is the perfect tool for young riders learning to race and win. Suitable for bigger riders, the RM85L features larger wheels, plus a longer swingarm and wheelbase.
Powering the next generation of champions, the high-revving, lightweight, 84.7cc, two-stroke, liquid-cooled engine delivers incredible performance with strong peak power and torque. The lightweight single cylinder features Suzuki's original Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating for efficient heat transfer and engine durability.
Incorporating aluminium exhaust valves plus an RM125-style exhaust valve governor and linkage, the proven Suzuki engine offers precise valve movement and strong throttle response. The RM85 features a Keihin PE28 carburetor for smooth throttle response and simplified maintenance, while a digital CDI map offers suitable engine performance at high rpm.
Designed with young riders in mind, the RM85 features a smooth-shifting, six-speed transmission, optimised for positive shift feel. In addition, Suzuki's junior motocrosser is equipped with a long clutch lever for precise clutch feel and easier operation during starts and cornering.
The chassis of the RM85 features a high-tensile, tubular steel, thick-wall frame for impressive cornering performance. Giving young riders maximum confidence, the Showa 37mm inverted front forks are completely adjustable for rider weight, style and ability, and include fork guards to protect the inner fork tubes. On the rear, a large diameter rear shock is designed to produce a plush feel with strong bottoming resistance.
The RM85 includes a twin-piston front brake caliper with a large 220mm disc and a 200mm disc brake on the rear, delivering consistently strong braking performance and feel. Thick cross-sectioned brake and shift pedals, plus chrome-moly steel footpegs provide increased durability and offer riders improved feel.
Highlighting its edgy, aggressive styling, the 2008-model RM85 features bold new graphics inspired by the full-size RM125 and RM250 Suzukis. Sporting Suzuki's distinctive Champion Yellow livery, the RM85 and Big Wheel RM85L are anticipated to arrive in late August, with pricing to be advised closer to the arrival date.
RM125
Ready to outrun its off-road rivals, the proven 124cc, Suzuki two-stroke, liquid-cooled engine produces a wide powerband and smooth power delivery. The RM125's powerplant also features an aluminium-alloy cylinder bore plated with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) for optimum heat transfer and maximum durability. A piston ring locating pin improves ring sealing and increases power output, while the digital CDI matches ignition timing to throttle inputs for improved low rpm engine response. Offering maximum performance, the RM125 features a Suzuki six-speed transmission with optimised gear ratios.
A single backbone, dual cradle, chrome-moly steel tubular frame is strong yet light, giving the RM125 razor-sharp handling. Coupled with lightweight fork protectors, the RM125 has Showa 47mm inverted dual-chamber front forks with 310mm of wheel travel that are fully adjustable for compression damping, rebound damping and spring preload. The front suspension's compression and rebound valve settings are developed for smooth mid-stroke movement and maximum suspension balance, delivering superb cornering and straight-line performance.
The Showa piggyback reservoir rear shock includes adjustable high and low speed compression, rebound damping and spring preload. Delivering impressive rigidity and straight-line performance, the aluminium swingarm features a tall main beam section design. Equipped with a fully floating front disc with a dual hydraulic piston front caliper, and a single piston caliper rear disc brake, the RM125 delivers exceptional stopping power and confidence-inspiring braking feel.
The RM125 features lightweight Renthal tapered aluminium handlebars rubber-mounted to minimise vibrations and a Renthal-labelled handlebar pad, plus a textured seat finish for additional comfort and grip.
In 2008, the RM125 features aggressive, new graphics to accompany Suzuki's famed Champion Yellow paintwork, completing a winning look. The 2008-model Suzuki RM125 is expected to arrive in October 2007.
RM250
Offering superior fire power, the RM250 is engineered for class-leading balance with emphasis on both cornering and straight line performance. Suzuki's 2008 RM250 is powered by an impressive 249cc, two-stroke, liquid-cooled, reed-valve-intake engine with a bore and stroke of 66.4mm x 72.0mm.
The aluminium cylinder core features Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) for better heat dissipation, reduced weight and improved durability. A 38mm Keihin carburetor ensures precise fuel/air mixing for smooth, strong throttle response, while the digital CDI matches ignition timing to throttle opening and enhances low-end power output. The RM250 features a five-speed transmission with a heavy-duty multi-plate clutch.
Offering maximum strength and minimum weight, the chrome-moly steel frame and easy-to-remove aluminium rear sub-frame improve rigidity and performance on the racetrack. Precise positioning of engine and drive sprocket enhances the stability of the rectangular-cross-section aluminium swingarm and improves rear wheel traction in the whoops.
Built with an emphasis on better cornering and straight line performance, the Showa 47mm inverted dual-chamber front forks are fully adjustable, with compression and rebound damping valve settings tuned for smooth mid-stroke movement and maximum overall suspension balance. At the rear, a Showa piggyback reservoir shock absorber provides impressive traction and is fully adjustable for high and low speed compression damping, rebound damping and preload with 310mm of wheel travel. The full-floating front disc brake is coupled with a dual piston caliper while the rear disc brake includes a single-piston caliper. Accompanied by a Renthal-labelled handlebar pad, the lightweight Renthal tapered aluminium handlebars are rubber mounted to reduce vibrations, while riders also receive increased control and feel from the seat's textured side panels.
Sporting Suzuki's distinctive Champion Yellow livery, the RM250 features an aggressive new graphics kit.
The 2008 Suzuki RM range is due to arrive in Australia in late August, with pricing to be advised closer to its arrival.
