Leading Queensland Yamaha dealer, Northstar Yamaha, in association with Yamaha Queensland has secured the services of the sublimely talented Robbie Marshall to race under the Northstar Yamaha banner for the 2007 motocross and supercross season.
Marshall, 22 years of age from Dundas west of Brisbane, finished 3rd in the 2006 Australian Supercross Championship and 4th in the 2006 Australian Motocross Championship, yet when the seat swapping finished late 2006, the talented whiz was left without a factory supported ride.
In swept Northstar Yamaha."I couldn’t believe a rider with Robbie’s talent and results was left on the bench for 2007. When I heard he was still available, I instantly worked out a package with the guys at Yamaha Queensland and put it to him. I am pumped to have him on board and I’m sure he will be a major asset to our business and be in the hunt for major championships come 2007," says Northstar owner Michael Edwards.
While Marshall’s 2007 program isn’t set in stone just yet but he will compete on behalf of Northstar Yamaha at all local and state Queensland events as well as the National Supercross Championship. He has already picked his 2007 YZ450F and will soon have a couple of YZ250F’s parked along side in his shed.
"This is just the kind of deal I was looking for. It gives me the opportunity to explore some other avenues with my riding yet still race at the events I want and via for national championships," Robbie explains. Being dropped from a team has given me plenty of motivation and I intend to repay Northstar’s faith in me with some big results next year", he continues.
Equally excited about Marshall’s signing is Yamaha Queensland Dealer Development Manager, Jon Hafey who assisted in brokering the deal.
"Robbie is a tremendous rider and to have someone like him working with us is a huge bonus. He is very keen to be a part of our junior development program up here and his influence will only further help our young riders," Hafey says. Personally, I think his best results are still in front of him and he is more than capable of being the best Lites rider in the country."
Marshall’s 2007 season kicks of on January 6 with a string of stadium motocross events. Be sure to check out the flying Northstar machines with Robbie on board when he gets to a town near you.
