After Marco Melandri’s historic first ever win for BMW in World Superbike at Donington, you would have excused him for thinking he had a chance as he dived for the lead on the last lap in Race Two.
It was not to be, as he ran wide and 3rd placed Johnny Rea appeared to hit the rear of BMW team-mate Haslam into a slide, taking out both BMWs.
