Chad Reed 3rd in Texas
In his quest to reel in current 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series leader James Stewart, Australia’s Supercross marvel Chad Reed remarkably posted the fastest lap of the race, on the final lap of tonight’s thrilling 20-Lap Main Event at Round 13 of the series at Texas Stadium in Irving,USA.
The L&M/San Manuel/Yamaha rider crossed the chequered flag to finish second after challenging Stewart for the win right up until the last corner of the race.
Reed and his dedicated Yamaha team have been working hard in a number of areas to ensure they bridge the gap to the championship leader. The results were evident tonight with Reed posting the fastest lap of the race and finishing less than a second behind the eventual race winner.
Extremely quick from the onset Reed was unchallenged in his earlier heat race where he finished five seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
While extremely happy with the pace of his YZ450F Reed acknowledged they would be back to the test track during the three week break to continue to look for further improvements.
“Racing here tonight was just awesome for me. It was the first time this year that I have felt 100 per cent injury free and ready to race and that showed. It has been a long time since I have felt this good and to be honest, had that much fun racing. If only the main could have been another five laps longer.” Reed said.
“I had a shot at taking the lead on the last lap but it could have been pretty ugly and we would have both ended up on the ground so I had to play it safe.”
“For the past two weeks both the team and I have worked really hard to get us back at the front and we will go away and see what else we can do before we head to Detroit. There are still three rounds to go and even though James has a strong points lead, we could still win the series with a bit of luck. Racing is hard like that, you never say never! ” Reed added.
With just three rounds remaining Reed is currently second in both the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series and the FIM World Supercross Grand Prix Series.
The Australian will enjoy a three week break before he next competes at Round 14 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series which will be held at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday 21st April
