Chad Reed takes the Win in San Diego
18th February 2007
Australian Supercross star Chad Reed has taken victory at Round 7 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA and in doing so, reduced the points gap to the championship leader to only 12 points.
With Reed’s qualifying time only three 100ths of a second off that of his nemesis, the Main Event was always going to be a clash of the two titans.
Reed won his heat race convincingly and was awarded second gate pick for the main. The L&M/San Manuel/Yamaha rider took the lead on the opening lap and soon became embroiled in a battle for the race and the championship. The Australian clipped a tough block and lost a couple of seconds but kept his cool and was quickly back hot on the heels of the race leader. On lap eight of the 20-lap race, championship leader James Stewart made a costly mistake which allowed Reed to regain the lead and eventually take his first race win of the 2007 AMA Supercross season – an impressive five seconds ahead of his nearest rival. After finishing second on three occasions and third on three occasions this year Reed acknowledged he was getting tired of the minor placings. “I love this place,” said Reed. “I have had so many great races here, and this is huge for me.” “Second place was getting really old. It’s a shame to see James crash like that, but this is a big relief for me because I know I can win.” “I rode well within my limits tonight and didn’t need to take any risks. It is good to know you have a bit up your sleeve for when you need it,” Reed added. Reed will next compete at Round 8 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series which will be held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday 24th February |
