December 5, 2006
Team Husqvarna Racing’s Australian 2006 Supermoto Champion Troy Herfoss headed off to New Caledonia to contest the 3rd Supermoto of Noumea. The invitational ride to the French territory south west Pacific isle, was certainly a change of scenery but definitely not a change of pace as Herfoss outgunned his local opponents on the 51 second a lap picturesque city circuit on Sunday December 3, 2006.Hot sunny conditions greeted the riders for both days which included a practice on the Saturday as well Super Pole. Herfoss comfortably won the Super Pole which set him up well for the 3 heats on Sunday.
Herfoss began well on Sunday winning his first heat by 12 seconds in the SM 1 Class on his factory Husqvarna SMR450. The second didn’t quite go to plan with Herfoss stalling mid race when leading into the dirt section costing him 2 places, eventually finishing third. Herfoss made no mistake in his last 10 minute + 2 lap heat winning by 15 seconds and winning the S1 Class.
The large 7,500 strong crowd then waited for the Super Final which was an all in handicap start. The S2 class (250cc) started 15 seconds ahead of the S1 Class (450cc) which started 10 seconds in front of Herfoss. Herfoss picked his way through the field effortlessly and managed to secure a big lead finishing a whopping 18 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
“Overall a successful weekend and I’m happy with my result even though I had a hiccup in the 2nd heat. I love how they created the supermoto track in the middle of the city with the track positioned right near the bay. The atmosphere was huge with over 7,500 locals coming down to watch and the people that hosted the event did such a terrific job,” said Herfoss late Sunday afternoon.
