Supercross sensation Chad Reed was pipped by the smallest of margins at the 12th round of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis tonight, finishing second in what was the closest finish of a Supercross Main Event this year.
Fast becoming the master of starts the Australian claimed his sixth Holeshot and quickly established a substantial lead while arch-rival James Stewart languished back in the pack.Reed rode smartly, negotiating back markers as they entered the second half of the race, but by lap 14 a battle had erupted between the 25-year old and Stewart.
The L&M/San Manuel/Yamaha rider threw everything he had at defending his position but a small error on lap 15 allowed Stewart to slip past.Reed pushed hard onboard his YZ450F for the remainder of the race to finish in second place, crossing the finish line a mere 1.6 seconds behind the race winner. “I had a great start tonight,” said Reed. “It was a lot of riding up front, but I need to be more aggressive out there.”
“Both the team and I worked really hard during the week to make sure we were back at the front. We found some new direction with the bike and with my riding and that really showed tonight ”
“We will continue along that same path this week and hopefully we will be the ones on the top step at Irving” said Reed
With just four rounds remaining Reed is currently second in both the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series and the FIM World Supercross Grand Prix Series.
Reed and his L&M/San Manuel/Yamaha team will race again next weekend at Round 13 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series which will be held at the Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas, USA on Saturday 31stMarch.
