The Return of Bayliss?

About a year ago we spoke with a freshly retired Troy Bayliss at a V8 Supercar test, and after our chat with him, mentioned in our resulting story that we wouldnt bet against seeing him back in leathers.

bayliss-2010Having just completed a successful testing session at Mugello on a Ducati development 1198 superbike, Troy is again talking about a return to racing.

“I really enjoyed myself and I hope the feedback I have been giving the guys is useful,” said Bayliss. “I was a little worried that I’d have forgotten how to ride after the year and a half break, but it was easy and to be honest it felt like I’d never been away!”

Speaking to British weekly MCN Troy made a clear indication of where his heart lays.

“You’re a long time retired,” Bayliss told MCN. “I haven’t ridden a world superbike bike since I retired so we’re going to knock the rust off at Mugello and see where we’re at. I’m saying I could come back and we’re going to have to see. It would make sense to come back with Ducati that’s for sure.”

Bayliss retired at the end of the 2008 season with three world titles and 52 wins from 152 races. His return to the World Superbike paddock would be an enormous boost to the championship, given his massive popularity.

Stay tuned for developments.
