On a track that appeared to bumpier than ever,his 1.32.2 second lap is close to his 2006 Superpole effort on the 999 Ducati. Fellow Ducati Xerox rider, teammate Michel Fabrizio was fourth fastest, one spot ahead of an impressive Ruben Xaus on the Sterilgarda Ducati equal fifth with Yamahas Troy Bayliss. Max Biaggis first hitout on the Ducati left him 2 tenths behind this pair in sixth.
The 2008 World Superbike Championship kicks of in Qatar on February 23, followed by a return to Phillip Island on March 2nd .
