Yamaha FZ6 Cup back for 2009
Yamaha Australia have announced its continued support for the successful FZ6 road race class in 2009.
Yamaha Motor Australia is pleased to announce its continued support for the successful FZ6 road race class in 2009.
The FZ6 Masters Series is a one model race class that is run as part of the Australian Superbike Series (ASBK). This exciting race category debuted in 2007 and proved itself a successful entry level race series that pits riders against each other on very similar, production based machinery. The FZ6 Masters Series will run over four rounds and C and D grade riders will be able to cross enter for the Superstock 600 series, adding value for competitors and consolidating the class to encourage future growth. T
he four rounds on the 2009 ASBK calendar have been confirmed as:
Round one Symmons Plains, Tasmania 3-5 April
Round two Queensland Raceway, QLD 29-31 May
Round three Eastern Creek, NSW 7-9 Aug
Round four Calder Park, VIC 12-15 Nov
Round one at Symmons Plains will be standalone and the remaining rounds will share track time with the newly introduced Womans Nationals series.
ASBK promoter Yarrive Konsky is excited about the potential for growth of both of these classes: "We must look to develop classes with potential not only to become self sustainable but also offer a draw card to attract spectators and sponsors. Yamaha’s FZ6N is an ideal starting platform for riders wishing to get involved in road racing but who don’t want to spend big bucks doing so."
Sporting a fuel injected R6 based engine and sweet handling aluminium chassis, the 600cc FZ6N is the perfect platform for riders wanting to test their skills against others on a level playing field.
"The FZ6 Masters Series is designed not only to attract new riders into road racing, but also to lure lapsed riders back into a low cost, equal footing challenge," explains YMA Director/General Manager Steven Cotterell.
Race and competition details will be advised in further amendments in the ASBK 2009 Series Supplementary Regulations.
