Australia’s most talented pogo stick pilots have just over 3 months to perfect an array of spins, grabs, stalls, reverses, technical and big air moves in preparation for the 2008/09 National Pogo Championships (NPC).

Presented in conjunction with Motostik – The Original MX Pogo Stick and Dirt Action, the NPC will be held as a series of heats over three rounds.

The opener will feature at the Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne (October 30-November 2 2008), followed by the second showdown at the Sydney Motorcycle Show (November 21-23 2008). The third and final round at the Australian Motorcycle Expo Gold Coast (February 20-22 2009) will also be the site of the grand final, with state winners to bounce off for their shot at the title of National Pogo Champion.

Australia’s champion will win the ultimate prize, consisting of a return flight from Sydney to Las Vegas, accommodation and tickets to the prestigious Las Vegas AMA Supercross finale in May 2009. Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne and Gold Coast and Sydney Motorcycle Show Event Manager, Mark Petersen, of Exhibitions and Trade Fairs, said the first-run event was a sure sign of the resurgent popularity of the modern day pogo stick.

“We’re thrilled to be staging the National Pogo Championship in conjunction with the Melbourne, Sydney and Gold Coast events, the Motostik has really taken off as the newest addition to action sports and Australia has some talented athletes in this field,” said Petersen. “No longer just a novelty, the Motostik is a legitimate and effective training tool for motocross and freestyle motocross riders – one hour of activity on a Motostik is equivalent to over 4 hours of running! As well as the traditional jumps, grabs, spins and stalls, we’re seeing some incredible big air attempts as well as various technical tricks which really seem to defy gravity.”

Championship categories include Freestyle, Best Trick, Highest Jump and Most Jumps in a Minute. In addition to the NPC heats in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast, visitors will also have the exclusive chance to test the Motostik, with a series of ‘Bounce-Offs’ to be conducted by professional pogo pilots each day. A number of Motostiks will also be up for grabs for lucky visitors throughout the showcase events.

The August issue of Dirt Action will feature a comprehensive rundown on the 2008/09 NPC, and also offers readers the chance to win their own Motostik. The NPC is just one of the exciting features on display at the Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne and Gold Coast and the Sydney Motorcycle Show. The showcase events, which attracted a total of over 70,000 visitors in 2007, present the latest motorcycle, ATV and scooter models and an extensive range of accessory, apparel, trade magazine, rider safety and service exhibitors. The Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne and Gold Coast and the Sydney Motorcycle Show are proudly supported by presenting sponsor QBE Insurance.
