Last year saw the introduction of a new Class into ANDRA Drag Racing, D/SB (D Street Bike) for street bikes with a capacity under 640cc. Whilst some predicted no one would be interested in the smaller streeters, there has been a continued increase in numbers.

And while many expected an established dragbike rider to head the running with a small bike, it has been a newcomer who has so far set the pace. Queenslands Jared Waters has jumped into the lead of Motoaus Bragging Board , ripping out a 10.31 second run at the recent Superbike Shootout at Willowbank Raceway, dislodging Motoaus’ own Rebecca Archer from the top of the list. Her 10.41 second R6 Yamaha best is now in second place.

21 year old Jareds 2007 Suzuki GSXR 600 has minimal modifications, limited to an Akropovic muffler, K&N filter and of course lowering front and rear. Future plans include a Power Commander and perhaps a set of cams. The hardest part of racing the 600 is of course riding it.

Image Jareds motocross experience has helped there, from starting out on a KX60, and progressing most recently to winning the Quad Masters Series in 2006 on a Rocklea Diesel sponsored Polaris 500cc Quad, it shows the difference the rider can make.

First sampling the dragstrip at a Test and Tune event, an excellent 10.80 second pass on the dead stock near new 600 impressed, and has hooked Jared on drag racing. It remains to be seen who will be the first 600 into the 9 second zone, but certainly he is currently the favorite.

The Shootout saw the first ever 10.3 zone runs from a 600 with several run by Jared in the less than ideal conditions during the 600 Challenge that was included in the days events. An astounding 15 riders fronted with the smallest of sportsbikes, defying those who said 600 riders wouldnt race them. An unneccessary redlight ruined Jareds shot at the challenge, but he continued in the following Test n Tune, culminating in a 10.31 second pass best.

Jared is currently supported by Springwood Suzuki, but additional sponsorship is always being sought.
