Fastest 1000cc bikes set to Battle in the West

Records are sure to tumble when the biggest field of street based dragbikes hit  the track in the eagerly awaited 2008 Westernationals this weekend at Perths Kwinana Motorplex.

The always large Perth fields will be boosted by the arrival of a record 13 bike racers from Queensland,
6 of which will be racing in the hotly contested Competition Bike class. The focus of attention will be on the white hot B/SB class racers, with 13 of the fastest 1000cc rockets in Australia to fight for the win, and an Australian Record.

At least 5 of the bikes racing have already run faster than the Australian record of 9.41 seconds,
headed by Perths Neil Anderson with a previous 9.23,  the classes benchmark. Australian Championship points leader. Queenslands Blair Pennington, has run as quick as 9.34 seconds
whilst developing his new Suzuki GSX-R1000 Suzuki, and is keen to place his name in the record books. Fellow Banana Bender Dave Rundman has also recently got on top of tuning problems with his similar model GSX-R, running as fast as 9.40 in recent testing.

With equal points leader in the Australian Championship Peter Everett not competing on his 8 second Suzuki A/SB, the 50% bonus points on offer in Perth should push the winner of the event into Championship contention prior to the Queensland Winternationals decider.

Other class bikes to watch include Perths Brett Allen, competing on his new 1600cc EFE Suzuki, a proven 8 second runner, and Ross Smith on his "first into the 8s"  A/SB Hayabusa. A dark horse for the win may also emerge with any of the 8 more highly modified Comp bikes capable of producing consistent winning numbers.

The awesome nitro burning Top Bikes will contest this round of the championship, with the Queensland based Jack Daniels team taking on Kiwi Athol Williams and a field of locals including current Aus champ Jay Upton who has been battling tune up issues all year.

Modified Bike also has a massive 40 entrants, with 3 Queenslanders hoping to take out one of the nations toughest race fields for a win. Fine weather and large crowds are predicted for the 2 day event.

Motoaus.com’s unofficial "Bragging Bored " is bound to get a reshuffle, with 8 of the racers appearing on the board racing at this event.
