Checa on Pole at Assen

Carlos Checa has secured his third pole in three race meetings with a scorching 1 minute 35.29 second lap in the final Superpole session. Jakub Smrz was next, again on a Ducati, with Yamaha World Superbike Team rider Eugene Laverty in third. Nori Haga rounded out the front row on the Aprilia.

Jonathan Rea was fifth fastest, and reigning world champion Max Biaggi was sixth. Marco Melandri lost his chance of pole by crashed out in the final few minutes and will start the from the back of row two.

Troy Corser just missed out on the final period of Superpole qualifying but made it into the top ten, while fellow Aussie Chris Vermeulen kicks off his return to World Superbike back in 18th place.
