FZ6 Cup comes to Winton

Winton Motor Raceway will host rounds 2 and 3 of the nation’s newest and most affordable road race category, the Yamaha FZ6 cup, this weekend.
 
The grassroots racing class is designed to make road racing both accessible and affordable to enthusiasts, along with providing them the opportunity to feature on national free to air and pay television broadcasts.
 
The one make field will compete in its first of two double header weekends in 2007, designed to bring twice as much racing to the fans while keeping costs down for competitors.
 
A total of 21 riders will contest the dual round format aboard their race ready 2007 FZ6N machines across 4 days. Riders will practice on Thursday, qualify on Friday, and race for points in rounds 2 and 3 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
 
Riders taking their place on the grid will include Ken Wooton aboard his fluro pink Hogs Breath Café FZ6, Mick Matheson aboard the AMCN FZ6 and the inclusion of the notorious James Spence is sure to shake up the field and provide for some great racing.
 
Yamaha Motor Australia Motorsport Manager Cheryl Muldoon said it was encouraging to see such a large dealer based team presence in the entry list, and thanked dealers for their support of the new class.
 
“Yamaha supports riders of all levels, from the pinnacle of the sport to our grassroots racers, and the FZ6 cup is a fantastic way for those on a budget to show their skills,” said Muldoon.
 
“It’s a very affordable solution and the bikes are close to identical specifications, making the racing very close and exciting”
 
“As an added incentive, the winner of this year’s series will get to keep their race bike, so we can expect to see these competitors racing handlebar to handlebar at Winton this weekend”
 
The race ready fleet of 2007 Yamaha FZ6N machines have the following modifications:
 
·     Removal of road going equipment
·     Fitment of a custom made fairing (similar to early FZ1) and custom single seat made by Racers       Edge.
·     GYTR alloy body race muffler and lead in pipe.
·     GYTR braided steel front brake hose set
·     GYTR crash knob set
·     Öhlins racing rear shock absorber
·     Öhlins steering damper
·     Öhlins front fork springs
·     ValterMoto rear sets
·     ValterMoto clip ons
