KRT riders Shannon Johnson and Scott Charlton became acquainted with the brand new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Motorcycles for the first time as they took to Eastern Creek Raceway on Thursday 24 January with successful and encouraging results.
After hearing so much positive feedback about the brand new Kawasaki from industry journalists and overseas test riders, KRT were eager to experience the all new Ninja ZX-10R first hand. And the consensus is……. It’s fast! Very Fast!
Having just unpacked the new Ninja’s from the crate, KRT wasted no time getting to the track. With only suspension changes and new front brake lines, the new Ninja ZX-10R motorcycles took to the track basically in road trim. In this guise, the new ZX-10R’s were well and truly on the pace with both riders recording times comparable to last years times that were achieved on Motorcycles in full race trim.
Both riders recorded lap times of low to mid 1 minute 33 seconds, very encouraging for a Motorcycle with standard engine and exhaust. KRT Team Manager, Dave Cullen, was very pleased with the days testing,
“This has been a very encouraging day for KRT. This shakedown testing of the new ZX-10R’s straight out of the box has been very beneficial for the riders and Team alike. The new Ninja has exceeded our early expectations and we’re very encouraged by the results. I think we will have a very competitive package come race day.”
Shannon Johnson was excited to get on board the new Kawasaki Motorcycle. “After hearing so much about the new Ninja ZX-10R, I couldn’t wait to climb on board and I was not disappointed one bit. In fact the new ZX-10R exceeded my expectations. It has got buckets of power! I felt really comfortable on this Motorcycle after only a short time. I can’t wait for the 1st race.”
New KRT signing, Scott Charlton was just as happy. “I’m so impressed with the new Ninja ZX-10R. In road trim, this bike is fast, I can’t wait till it’s race ready. It’s been a while since I’ve ridden a Kawasaki and what a Motorcycle to re-acquaint me with the Manufacturer.”
Shannon and Scott will race the new ZX-10R Motorcycles for the first time at the NSW Road Racing Championship on 16 & 17 February 2008 at Eastern Creek Raceway. Scott and KRT supported rider, Shaun Geronimi will be starting their 2008 racing campaign, settling into their Kawasaki ZX-6R Supersport rides and looking for podium finishes at the support races for the A1 GP at Eastern Creek this weekend, 2-3 February 2008.
