Reed Sucks Sand for Second in Houston

chad reed houston Sand in his throat and deep ruts through the whoops proved to be the gremlins in Chad Reeds assault on the sixth round of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA SX Series in Houston Texas last night.

The Australian Supercross sensation finished second after struggling through the early stages of the 20-lap Main Event with sand in his throat which hindered his breathing for a number of laps.

Reed’s weekend got off to a great start with the 24 year old riding strong throughout practice, winning his heat and feeling better on his L&M/San Manuel/Yamaha YZ450F than he had all season.

After getting off the start line in third place in the Main Event, Reed slipped back to fourth where he remained until he regained composure and found his rhythm half way through the race.

As the race went on, the whoops section became deeper and cupped out and Reed was forced to take a totally different approach which in turn slowed his charge. The Yamaha rider was not too disappointed with his result outlining that he knew he was better than the final result.  "I got a bunch of sand in my throat in the early laps and I couldn’t get a good mouthful of air,” Reed explained, "I felt awesome tonight, it was just a poor main event, I was better than that. Overall, Chad didn’t show up this weekend.”

Thankfully it was not injury that slowed me down tonight,” Reed added.   Reed will next compete at Round 7 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series which will be held at San Diego’s  in California on Saturday 17th February.
