Biaggi and Melandri: 1-2 each in Spain

Marco Melandri and Max Biaggi have shared the honours at Aragon with a win and a second place each, while championship leader Carlos Checa crashed out of Race One in his home country.

Superbike Race One:

Max Biaggi led for the first 15 laps before polesitter Melandri took advantage of a slight mistake to take over the lead from his rival and countryman. Melandri then held the lead to record his second WSBK win by 1.5 seconds, with Brit Leon Camier making it an Aprilia 1-3. Carlos Checa crashed out on lap 8 after setting the fastest lap of the race.

Eugene Laverty (Yamaha) and Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) finished fourth and fifth, with the latter passing Noriyuki Haga on the last lap.

Superbike Race Two:
Biaggi finally broke his 2011 win drought in race two. After finishing on the podium nine times for zero wins, Biaggiled home Marco Melandri in second place. Checa trailled with a points gathering 3rd place, to limit the damage he had done in Race One to his commanding numerical lead. Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki) and Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki) filled out 4th and 5th places.

Troy Corsers dismal season continued with an arm breaking crash in Race 2, while fellow Aussie Chris Vermuelen managed a 12th in Race 1, and a 14th in Race 2.

Biaggi now trails Checa by just 43pts in the standings, with Melandri now 23 points behind Biaggi.
