Valentino Rossi airbrushed r1The online charity auction for an incredible airbrushed and personally-autographed Valentino Rossi tribute Yamaha R1 will begin in a fortnight. On his flying visit down under to compete at Phillip Island, Rossi took time out to meet with organisers of the Sydney Motorcycle Show (November 2-4) and see the machine that had been created to reflect his flamboyant personality and immense success in the modern MotoGP era.

The custom airbrushing was completed by renowned artist Mark Brown of Brown’s Grafix, and took 225 hours to complete. Profits from the eBay auction will be donated to the Make-A-Wish foundation, a charity that brings magic and joy to children and young people with a life-threatening illness by granting their most cherished wishes. The bike will be on display as part of the Brown’s Grafix stand at the Sydney Motorcycle Show, with the 10-day auction period beginning on November 5.

Expressions of interest have been so great that event organisers have taken a number of offline bids, with the current highest bidder sitting on $30,000. Mark Petersen of Exhibition and Trade Fairs said the response had been fantastic and said he expected the bike to make waves both locally and overseas.

“The Valentino Rossi tribute R1 was on show at the Australian Motorcycle Expo Brisbane and Melbourne, where it received lots of attention from fans and industry identities,” said Petersen. “It then headed to the Phillip Island MotoGP event where we were lucky enough to have Valentino personally sign the bike. He was rapt with the artwork and said it really reflected what he was about. The Sydney Motorcycle Show is the last chance for enthusiasts to check out the bike before it is auctioned online. It is also a great chance to check out hundreds of new motorcycles, scooters and ATVS as well as products, services and apparel, all in one place.”
