New US Superbike Series announced

New US rival race series announced to be called US Superbike (USSB)

In dramatic but predictable news, a  new rival professional road racing series has been announced in the USA.

After AMA Pro racing was sold to the Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG) and they subsequently announce plans to bring a new rule restrictive race series in next year, there has been talk of a breakaway series being started.

Today,  the MIC (Motorcycle Industry Group) – a body representing motorcycle manufacturers and importers –  has announced a new series to be named USSB,  which will run the factory style unrestricted Superbikes, more like the World and British series, rather than the "formula" style racing proposed by DMG.

The MIC state that their series will feature " the only racing series in America for unrestrained factory superbikes and their teams, as well as those who aspire to join their ranks and compete with them." according to MIC president Tim Busche.

The MIC’s press release states that:

"The premier class, U.S. Super Bike, will invite teams running the highly developed, factory-backed, fan-favorite racing motorcycles -1,000cc fours and larger-displacement twins- that have long been the basis for superbike racing. The inaugural USSB series will include U.S. Sport Bike, a 600cc category similar to the World Supersport Championship and others"

A new website is to be launched at  http://www.ussbchampionship.com, however the site is not operational at this time.

No race teams or manufacturers have released any statements yet as to what their plans are regarding the two seperate race series to be run next year.
