Sinclair flips out

Cam Sinclair became the first Australian and one of only three riders in the world to land a double backflip.

Yamaha FMX specialist Cam Sinclair rewrote the history books on Saturday night, becoming the first Australian and one of only three riders in the world to land a legendary double backflip, ramp to ramp.

An 8000-strong crowd at Napier in New Zealand watched on in awe as Sinclair launched and landed perfectly aboard his CDR Performance-prepared YZ250Y. Airborne for over 55 feet, the 24-year-old eclipsed previous riders’ efforts by an incredible 15 feet. Sinclair spent close to a year preparing for the jump, practicing in foam pits and even launching his Yamaha into Sydney Harbour. Despite an intense buildup, Sinclair said he felt little pressure and was simply looking forward to landing the jump safely.

"It feels so amazing to finally get that first one away and I am so glad I got to do it on tour with all of my riding buddies," said Sinclair. "It felt so good when they all ran up to congratulate me," he said. "The crowd was amazing and pumped me up so much before it, strangely I wasn’t nervous before it. I just wanted to get it done, I did and I am so stoked. "I can’t wait to perform it in Australia in front of a home crowd."

Yamaha Motor Australia Motorsports Manager, Ray Howard congratulated Sinclair on the achievement and looked forward to a stellar year of competition on the FMX scene. "Cam is an exceptionally hard worker and it is fantastic to see him pull off such a difficult move in the double backflip,"said Howard.
