Australian Motorcycle Expo 2009 Queensland
A quick look at some moments from the 2009 Motorcycle Expo from the Gold Coast.
The Australian Motorcycle Expo was held in Queensland the weekend of Feb 20-22 2009. This year was the first time it had been held on the Gold Coast, and was in fact carried forward from 2008 to the new date.
The LeMinz 24hour Scooterthon kicked the week off, and the show this year was complimented by the Australian Scooter Festival, and the Personal Watercraft Show.
The most often asked question of the event? Where the hell was Honda?

AMCN’s Ken Wooton introduced Suzuki’s trio of stars, as they look on in rapt attention.
Troy Bayliss only had to drive a few kilometers from his new home to help launch the Superbike Club, an offshoot of the Supercar Club in which members share usage of exotic wheels for an annual fee.
Triumph flew in a pre-production Thunderbird cruiser to unveil at the show.
Looking much better in the flesh than in the press photos seen so far, the Thunderbird could well pinch a few customers from other cruiser brands.
Can one ever take enough photos of MV Agusta’s iconic four tailpipes?
Has Black, White and Orange ever looked so good? KTMs 990 street mauler on display, doing a permanent stoppie.
This is what you get when you mix a ZX14 and someone artistic with way to much time on their hands.
And you thought drag racers lowered their bikes? This chop was lower than a snakes belly.
A team of lunatics assembled with 50cc minibikes and then proceeded to launch them repeatedly and dangerously off a large ramp.
..and behind that in the river was a team of expert ski pilots doing awesome tricks. Pity I didn’t see any of them.
Is it just me, or do the new Gixxer1000 mufflers have more than little resemblance to an aftermarket set of mufflers available prior to this model release?
The promoter of the event asked us to leave our scooters all dirty from the 24 hour LeMinz event. That’s his freshly clean scooter next to ours.
No way was Yamaha going to be outdone by Kawasaki’s extremely ugly red framed ZX14.
Test rides were available on CanAm’s 3 wheeler, as well as Harley/Buells lineup. I intended to ride Buells CR1125, but didnt get the chance.
Two stories here, one is Yamaha’s launch announcement of the neat yellow XJ6, the other is the close attention all those journos in the background are paying to the Yamaha marketing guy’s speech.
Much better Kawasaki, Thank you. Apologies to anyone who bought a red frame one.
