A look back at the Best of Motoaus.com in 2009
A look back over some of the stories of 2009 for Motoaus.com. A year where motorcycle sales went a bit astray, and some events suffered, Motoaus readership climbed to ever higher levels. From scooters to dragbikes, in Tokyo to Las Vegas with twin cylinder cruisers and electric MX bikes.
Here’s a few highlights. Thanks for reading, and we hope to have you back again in 2010, the start of a new decade.
24 Hour LeMinz Scooter Foolishness
After Bec rode this event last year, Select Scootas offered us another go on the mighty PMX Naked 50. This year however we put together a team of 3 girls, and arrived at the track in pouring rain….
Gold Coast Motorcycle Expo
Due to various reasons, a number of automotive and motorcycle events were not held as usual through 2009. One that did, and was a big success, was the arrival of the Motorcycle Expo in our own backyard, the sunny Gold Coast.
Superbike Club Launch
A warehouse full of Ferraris, Lambos and Rollers. Throw in James Morrison, a number of exotic motorcycles, and Motoaus ever on the hunt for a free drink, and you have the Brisbane launch of the Superbike Club…..
2009 Westernationals Drag Racing
We ventured to the wilds of remote civilisation, to attend WA’s premier drag racing event, the Western Nationals held at the supremely good Kwinana Motorplex. Plenty of action, from street bikes, all the way up to nitro burning Top Bikes….
Troy Bayliss Vodafone
After retiring too soon according to many, Aussie bike legend Troy Bayliss was looking for somewhere to lay down some blackies. We met up with Troy at Queensland Raceway, where he suited up for a fang in Vodafone’s V8 Supercar….
Buell 1125CR
Gone now, but not forgotten. Buell kindly sent us an 1125CR to sample. If nothing else, we got some great pictures of it…
Can Am Spyder
Seems like everyone had a go at testing the radical Can-Am Spyder 3 wheeler from BRP. Most used some type of play on words in the title. We didn’t. We did however spend some time testing the limits of both traction, and upper body strength….
2009 Story Bridge Show
As usual, we headed out for a pleasant day under the Story Bridge, where the Laverda club holds their annual Concourse show. Plenty of eye candy for bike enthusiasts of all types..
Aprilia RSV4 Launch
The long awaited launch of the V4 Aprilia meant we got to take a snaek peek at it before it went on sale. The long awaited ride on one hasn’t happened yet…ahem..
50th Anniversary Bonneville Ride
Thanks to the generosity of Motoaus reader Michael “Haggsy” Hegarty, we managed to get a ride on one of the rare limited production 50th Anniversary Triumph Bonnevilles. Actually a ride on 3 of them, cause thats how many he owns!…
2009 R1 Yamaha Review
Yamaha gave us the cross plane crank R1 to try. We loved it and took lots of photo’s. Voted by us as the best Jap 1000 sportsbike, the only thing we didn’t do was test it on a dragstrip. Luckily for us, someone else did…
2009 Tokyo Motor Show
Nothing’s too hard for Motoaus. We flew half way round the world to get a few pictures of motorcycles at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. Oh, and some pictures of girls too…
Zero Motorcycles at Lake Elsinore
Not content with visiting Japan, we then headed to Lake Elsinore in California for a look at the Zero electric dirt bikes, silent but deadly (well according to Erin McNaught anyway ;)…
SEMA Las Vegas GIRLS … BIKES
We then capped the year off with a visit to Las Vegas and the giant SEMA show, where we took lots of pictures of girls, and some of motorcycles…
