Jorge Lorenzo will start practice today in Sepang knowing he can emerge from this weekend’s race as the 2010 World MotoGP Champion. With his only rival in the points Dani Pedrosa out with a broken collarbone, Lorenzo needs to finish 9th or better to be champ.

“All I am thinking about is Sunday and if I can win the title…it’s been one of the dreams of my life and it would be great to get it here in Sepang. I like Malaysia a lot and I’ve done so many kilometres there testing on my M1, plus I have great memories from winning the 250 championship there in 2007”. said Lorenzo. “The track is long and modern but the weather can be a problem because it can be too hot and also rain can cause problems. I would definitely prefer it to be dry this year. The team and I will focus in the same way we have all season, working hard from Friday and with the goal of podium or victory”

casey-stoner-winnerCasey Stoner will be attemptng to add another race win, which would lift him to 8th on the all time winners list for MotoGP/500GP, with Mick Doohan the only Australian in front of him. Stoner has won this race in 2007 and 2009, as well as wins here in 125cc and 250cc, the only rider to win in all 3 classes.

“Motegi was our biggest question mark about set up and we had to really work hard to make the bike stable for the really heavy braking. Sepang isn’t too much about that, so we can maybe raise the bike back up again and get our traction a little better and see what happens. But we can hopefully expect to have the bike working well there” said Stoner.

Andrea Dovizioso will fly the flag alone for Repsol Honda after a great second place at Motegi, while Valentino Rossi remains unrepentant about his aggresive duel with Lorenzo.

A fun event yesterday for the riders was a gokart challenge, in which they split into groups to qualify for the available 10 race slots. While not all riders took part, it was Marco Melandri who took the win, from Mika Kallio, and Moto2 rider Dominique Aegerter.

The Sepang round of MotoGP 2010 will be shown on OneHD at 6.55pm (5.55pm Qld).
