Biaggi Doubles – Corser Podiums BMW at Monza
Max Biaggi made a clean sweep at Monza with a pole position start, and 2 convincing race wins. Despite stating Aprilia made some changes between races to the bike, Max never really looked threatened for the win in either race, with his Aprilia reaching speeds of 330km/h (205 mph) on the long straights.
Troy Corser steered the BMW to it’s first ever podium with his 3rd postion finish in the second race, helped along by Cal Crutchlow’s Yamaha failing, the reported oil cooler leak spitting him off out of a good 2nd position.
Race One: After the initial laps sorted out the pack, the leading bunch of Biaggi, Haslam, Toseland, Crutchlow and Rea became 4 as Rea flung his Ten Kate Honda over the top of the fence in the Parabolica.
Crutchlow dropped away after a chicane road expedition, but by lap 14 was back in contention, passing Toseland for 2nd. Toseland soon regained the lead, but the pair couldn’t quite get Biaggi, finishing in that order, with Haslam in 4th.

Race Two: The first corner saw contenders Rea and Toseland out in a big crash, along with Rueben Xaus. Toseland required a CT scan after sustaining an apparent concussion in the fall. Max Biaggi again led after the first lap, with Corser, Crutchlow and Haslam fighting it out behind. Biaggi and Crutchlow broke away, but Crutchlow’s challenge came to an oil soaked end when his Yamaha failed on the front straight, dumping him in the chicane.
Biaggi cruised to an easier win this time, with Haslam getting the better of Corser after a few out-of -seat moments. Biaggi’s double win moves him to within 3 points of the championship lead. Corser and his team were jubilant with BMW’s first ever World Supers podium finish.
Ducati had a lack lustre day, with Haga’s 6th place in race 2 the best. Vermuelen struggled again on the Kawasaki, with 18th and 13th place finishes, team mate Tom Sykes though snaring a great 5th in race 2, with a 9th in race 1.

Qoutes:
Max Biaggi:”This track is very long and it’s very easy to make a little mistake plus when you have your rhythm you stay with it, and it’s difficult to go faster and easier to go slower,” said Biaggi. “Anyway I’m happy with the result, it was a close race. I’m happy for me and my team. It’s an unbelievable result; it looks like we are achieving our goal. Here there is also the president of our group and it’s been a great weekend for everyone.”
Troy Corser:“I am so happy. We have put so much hard work into the project up to now having had some difficult and frustrating times,” said Corser. “It feels so good to see that all the hard work pays off. The bike is becoming better and better. Between the races we made some set-up changes and the bike stopped much easier, and we had the speed to compete with the top guys. Thanks to all the boys at BMW. It has been a long time coming, and it won’t be the last time.”
