Yamaha’s Eugene Laverty has won both WSBK races at Monza.

Laverty and Yamaha Double Up at Monza WSBK

Yamaha rider Eugene Laverty won his first World Superbike race at Monza yesterday. His second win came a few hours later, when he won Race 2 as well.

Laverty’s Race 1 win came after a battle with 2nd place Max Biaggi, and Leon Haslam in 3rd on the BMW. Troy Corser led early, but faded to finish 7th.

Race 2 looked to be all Max Biaggi, who had built a huge lead, but was controversially black flagged after running through a chicane. This allowed the duel for second between Laverty, and team mate Marco Melandri turn into a battle for the lead, with Laverty making a last lap pass for the win. 3rd was Michel Fabrizio over Nori Haga, after a similar duel that went all the way to the last corner. The race was marred by a first corner crash that took out Leon Haslam, Johnny Rea, and Jakob Smrz.

Chaz Davies won the Superstock race, leading from start to finish over his Yamaha team mate Luca Scassa, with Fabien Foret in 3rd.
