Chinese Bikes – Big Happy Super Fun
We take a quick look at some of the more unusual motorcycles made in China.
You may have heard that China produces nearly 20 million (yes 20,000,000!) motorcycles per year. No doubt at some point, more and more of them will find their way to Australian shores. What type of machines should we expect? Rumors of mid-size 600cc sporty nakeds and lightweight 250 enduro bikes abound.
We decided to check out some of the offerrings from some of China’s multitudinous exporters, and have put together a sample of Chinas finest.
We have avoided identifying these wondrous beasts, but think “Happy Wheels” and “Super Racer” and you can’t go far wrong. We have avoided renaming them ourselves.
This yellow peril doesn’t look too bad, not sure about the name on it though. Fartery?
This one is out there in left field, with its cone of silence windscreen.
You couldn’t go wrong with a RR badge and a shocking blend of red, white and orange! Seems to get smaller towards the back, maybe they ran short of crayon?
Some kind of road use quad by the looks of it, can’t see it getting far in the sand with those tyres.
Looks suspiciously like another major Japanese brands product. Perhaps even more ugly though.
It’s not just motorcycles coming our way, who needs a Segway when you can have this beauty. Hopefully a two stroke, for maximum annoyance factor. Love the single hand grip, you could put your other hand in your pocket.
I see a wheel, a handle and a shopping trolley component. Throw in a motor, instant gravel rash.
Are you jealous of those cool Harley trikes ridden by cool badass dudes? Here’s your ticket. Plus, it can carry a large load of rotting vegies.
Three wheels not enough? This one person car could be a two wheeler if you drive it fast and dangerously enough.
Honestly, think how cool you would look prowling the streets at night in this ride.
Too be fair some of the designs don’t look too bad, here’s a few that are at least interesting, and perhaps the forebears to something desirable out of the Mysterious East.
Funky looking trike/scooter thing.
A sports? bike. 200cc with a hint of Blade.
Stunt/BMX/Madass cross breed, not too bad, possibly my favorite.
But..last but not least, possibly one of the greatest design triumphs ever, I present to you the Chinese take on the maxi scooter. Forget your boring Burgman, who cares about your retro Scarabeo, this baby shames them all.
From the crayons of the masters, we present:
drum roll…
The Maxi Scoot!
Note: I guess its possible one day*, Chinese motorcycles will be as universally desired and admired as the best of the Japanese superbikes, or European exotics.
*That day is not today.
