DN-01 released in Australia

Have you ever seen one of those “concept” bikes in the magazines, or at a motorcycle show? You know, styling like nothing currently available, and a whole slew of features that you just know are never going to be on the production model, like “automatic fingerprint enhanced electronic fork oil dispenser” or something?

At the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, Honda had one of those on show  – not the fingerprint thing- a show bike called the DN-01. Long and low, cross between a maxi scooter and a cruiser, with a dash of sport bike. 680cc V-Twin, and a clutchless automatic transmission with a 6 speed manual mode. Combined anti lock brake system, projector headlights and LED tail polished it off.

Well, amazingly, it’s on sale. With all those features. We can’t say what niche this fits into, maybe it will make a new one. Buyers will surely include cruiser riders, maxi scooter fans, new riders, and those with a bent for the unusual. This is another bike we can’t wait to ride.

DN01

Honda says:

The very latest Honda technology has been integrated into  concept bike looks and relaxed custom riding, along with a  680cc V-twin engine and 17″ wheels. There is one major difference from most bikes of its size, however, in that the DN-01 has no clutch. Instead, Honda’s cruiser introduces the most advanced fully automatic transmission ever developed for any two wheeled vehicle. Strong performance is delivered through an ‘infinitely variable HFT transmission’ that features Drive, Sport and 6-speed Manual modes for wide-ranging performance potential. Its switch-selectable mechanical Neutral also makes for easier control when at stop. The bike’s dynamic front cowl design with dual projector headlights, wide LCD instrument panel, integrated LED taillight assembly and  Combined-Antilock Brake System complete the package.

“The DN-01 is one of Honda’s most innovative R&D projects come to life, and has been built to appeal to a broad spectrum of the market. With its low seat height and technologically advanced automatic transmission, it is an ideal option for those who want an easy ride, coupled with the handling and power of a larger road bike”.

The DN-01 is available now until 31 October 2008 at a special introductory price of only $16990 plus on road costs. For specifications, please visit: www.hondamotorcycles.com.au
