Looking Back – 1998 Yamaha YZF-R1
Yamaha upped the sportsbike ante in 1998 with the release of the YZF-R1. The R1 was a full 1000cc and had more power, less weight, faster handling and super aggressive styling. With it's distinctive front end styling, there was never any question that you were looking at one serious motorcycle. Massive sales and great race track success took Yamaha's sportsbike range to the top of sales charts all over the world and the R1 was a leader in it's class.
