Thirty-three students at Yamaha’s Chris Urquhart YAIM Motocross School on the Gold Coast got more than their normal money’s worth when they test rode the new ’08 YZ250F and YZ450F models last week.

Former Pro Racer and longtime Yamaha man Urquhart coaches the latest techniques every Thursday at Reedy Creek circuit, but last week, and for the next two weeks, there will be an extra attraction. The latest incarnations of the four-stroke motocross bikes that re-invented the category, the 2008 model YZ-Fs come with significant improvements aimed at keeping the class leaders at the top of the podium.

chris urquart yamahaNowhere has this been more ably demonstrated than in this year’s World Motocross Championships, where Josh Coppins (MX1) and Antonio Cairoli (MX2), hold clear leads in their respective classes. The initial Come and Trial day at Reedy Creek was a raging success, according to Y-AIM’s Chris Urquhart; “the Junior and Lites riders all rode the 250F, and the Lites and Senior riders all had a ride aboard the 450F, and they were all pretty impressed.

“They loved the way the bikes felt straight out of the box, in terms of the balance, the power, and the way that they turned. I think they were super impressed too that Yamaha took the initiative, and had the confidence to let people try their bikes before they set foot in the showroom – there might be a few new blue riders after this!” said Chris.

Yamaha’s Queensland Sales Manager Ray Howard, who engineered the Come and Trial program in conjunction with Y-AIM, said the demo day was an opportunity to sample the ‘08s to both grass roots riders and stars of tomorrow, simultaneously. “The experience generated important feedback for the ’08 models,” said Howard. “Most were overwhelmed with how friendly the bikes were straight out of the box, and some were completely amazed at how manageable and tractable the 450 was."

“And if you’re considering buying a new YZ four-stroke,” continues Howard, “a Y-AIM demo ride will give you a never-to-be-repeated sales advantage (through a dealer of your choice) at the point of purchase.”

More Chris Urquhart Y-AIM training/Come and Trial days are planned for the upcoming weeks, and bookings are currently being taken for the next three weekly schools.
