DVS Honda Report From Winton

DVS HondaTeam DVS Honda’s Adam ‘Krusty’ Fergusson put in a gritty performance this weekend at the combined 2nd and 3rd round of the YMF Loan Australian Superbike Championship held at Winton. The weekend’s racing was the first of two combined rounds in 2007, the second being Queensland raceway later in the year.

Despite not coming out of the round with the results they were looking for, the team took a lot out of the weekend and remains un-phased in their attack on the championship.

James Murray Parkes – Engineer

“We came with a different plan of attack this weekend. We took a fairly major punt on a new setup that we thought we could get to work up here. Ultimately for a variety of reasons it didn’t end up that way; The track didn’t really come to us this weekend and the fairly extreme setup we tried didn’t end up paying off. Sometimes you have to put yourself out there strategy-wise to catch the boys in front. This time it didn’t work, but you don’t know unless you give it a shot. In the end we cut our losses and went back onto the old bike and things were looking up until ‘Krusty’ had an issue with his wrist that left us struggling. But we’ll bounce back and learn from it. We’re a new team and we’ve got lots of learning to do. We’ll continue to try all sorts of things, some will work, some won’t – but that’s part of the challenge!”

“We actually took a lot away from this weekend despite not getting the results we were looking for. I wanted to be right up the front but it wasn’t until after race 1 on Saturday that we sat down and looked at the results objectively and accepted that the new bike wasn’t going to work. So I jumped on the old bike for race 2 and it took a bit of time to get used to that setup again – towards the end of the race I was feeling that I could push hard.”

“By race 3 on Sunday I was feeling like the old Krusty again! I was having some great fun dicing with a bunch of riders and had worked my way steadily up to sixth when I made a move to out-brake another rider down the end of the back straight and felt something twinge in my wrist. I struggled to hang onto the bike and nearly threw it down the road! From there it was tough really as I just couldn’t accurately put the bike where I wanted and we drifted backwards.

We did some work on my arm and wrist for race 4 but it really didn’t improve and I just wasn’t able to ride consistently with it. That’s the way it goes, it’s not a long term injury and we’ll come out swinging again in the next round.”
