8th Annual Snowy Ride

The eighth annual Snowy Ride took place last weekend through the Alpine region of NSW, attracting a record crowd of nearly 3000 riders and raising over $250,000 for childhood cancer research.

Each year, motorcyclists from across Australia flood into the Snowy Mountains for a world class ride on some of the country’s most picturesque roads, converging upon Thredbo for a weekend of fun culminating in a major prize draw provided by Honda Australia.

The Ride raises money for the ‘Stephen Walter Foundation’, inspired by a passionate young motorcycle rider who lost his eight year fight against cancer.

All money raised goes directly to the Children’s Cancer Institute of Australia, and since its establishment, the event has raised more than $1.75 million and seen over 18,000 riders register to participate.

“This year’s Snowy Ride was a tremendous success. We’re really pleased that more and more motorcyclists are getting behind this cause,” said Tony Hinton, Honda’s General Manager, Motorcycles.

“I’d also like to thank Suzuki, BMW and Ducati for taking part. This is the first year we’ve extended the opportunity for other manufacturers to get involved and it worked really well. It was a positive industry collaboration for a worthy cause.”

“The Snowy Ride goes hand-in-hand with the Honda philosophy of joining forces with communities to achieve their dreams,” said Mr Hinton.

Additional activities for the weekend included attendance by the Honda Riders Club of Australia (HRCA) who once again provided a fleet of motorcycles for participants to test ride up and down the mountain.

Margaret Greenup from NSW was the lucky winner of the Honda draw, taking home a brand new luxury model GL1800 Goldwing worth over $40,000.

The 2009 Snowy Ride will be held on Saturday November 7th. For more information visit: www.snowyride.com.au
