Jacob Smith forges a name for himself across disciplines
This year is shaping up to be a big one for 18 year-old Jacob Smith who is leading the Yamaha Stadium Motocross Series while also excelling at endurance races such as the Condo 750 where he claimed victory and the Australian Safari where he finished second.
When it comes to dirt bike racing, riders usually choose to specialise in either motocross/supercross or off road enduro. Condobolin’s Jacob Smith is going against the rule and is forging a name for himself across both disciplines. This year is shaping up to be a big one for the 18 year-old who is leading the Yamaha Stadium Motocross Series while also excelling at endurance races such as the Condo 750 where he claimed victory and the Australian Safari where he finished second.
Smith loves the challenge of competing across disciplines and said it is the thrill for racing which sees him line up for motocross and navigation events held across Australia. “Most guys tend to choose a discipline because it is what they enjoy and prefer but for me I’m happy as long as I am on a bike competing,” Smith said. “Racing across both the different events also provides me with a technical challenge as I often go from preparing a bike for endurance racing and then turn around the next week and need to change the setup for a motocross track.”
At last weekend’s third round of the Yamaha Stadium Motocross Series in Bathurst Smith blitzed the competition and was awarded the series lead. This comes just weeks after the YZ450F rider scaled his way through the torturous terrain of Western Australia for the Australian Safari. “It was great to come through with a podium at Bathurst last weekend as it was my first in the Yamaha Stadium Motocross Series. I am striving to continue this great form through to the final round of the series,” Smith said.
The final round of the Yamaha Stadium Motocross Series will be held at Maitland Showground on Saturday 10 November.
