Yamaha produced the SR series single cylinder for 30 odd years – in 400 and 500 guise. Introduced in the late 70s as a road based motorcycle using the trail bike XT motor, the SR just kept on selling on, particularly in Japan. Emissions finally got the better of the carburated SR a few years ago, although a global warming/cooling friendly model with fuel injection is in the pipeline apparently.

Along the way the SR became a favorite basis of the cafe racer genre. The 88 model cafe racer SR400 shown in our ad here looks like it has some expensive Japanese aftrmarket parts added, including an alloy tank and the obligatory clip-ons and reverse cone muffler.
