The 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000 features a host of improvements and refinements. Minor changes abound, with the most noticable being a return to a single 4 into 1 muffler.
Monobloc Brembo calipers up front hang off newly blacked out forks, and internally the motor has copped a lot of small changes. Suzuki are claiming improved throttle response, increased power and acceleration at mid-range engine speeds, and up to 8% better fuel economy.
You can refer to the list below, but a quick look at engine changes will notice compression up to 12.9, lighter pistons, lightened tappet skirts, and a revised exhaust cam profile would cover the bigger changes.
Chassis wise – Big Piston Forks, the aforementioned Brembos grab onto discs that are half a mm thinner, and with unsprung weight in mind, Suzuki have lightened the axle, and have used a lighter front tyre.
Electronics are always about change, although no mention of traction control or ABS yet. The instrument pod has been given a makeover as well. The LED tail light is restyled, and the seats are now covered in what Suzuki call “high grip leather”.
An electronically controlled steering damper uses the ECU to monitor the bike’s speed and adjusts for lighter steering at lower speeds and for more damping force at racetrack or highway speeds.
The 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000 will be available in Australia early next year, and will come in two colour schemes, Metallic Triton Blue / Glass Splash White or Metallic Matt Black / Glass Sparkle Black.
