The famous BMW Safari, now into its 14th year, offers two opportunities for adventure in 2008, with the off-road GS Safari in March and on-road TS Safari in August. Early registration for the GS Safari has resulted in many places being snapped up, with just a handful now remaining.

Motorcyclists mounted on a BMW with recognised off-road abilities, and riding solo, are invited to attend. The BMW GS Safari will take place in the spectacular Victorian and New South Wales "High Country" from Sunday 2 March to Friday 7 March. It encompasses five days’ riding across the varied tracks and trails of the region. All participants must have off-road riding experience, and the event is ideal for those who have successfully completed a BMW off-road riding course.

The intrepid adventurers who took part in last year’s BMW Cape York Safari will be pleased to hear there is no sand, and no hungry crocs lurking in the water crossings, either. Immediately prior to the GS Safari, BMW Motorrad will hold a two day off-road riding course for around 30 participants wishing to hone their skills.

The 2008 TourenSport (TS) Safari will take place from the 17th – 23rd August in Queensland. The route is still a closely-guarded secret, but the event will run over six days and cover more than 2,000 km. Optional rest days are built into the schedule, so riders can take a day off to indulge in a luxury spa, scuba dive a wreck, visit an historic gold mining town or just cool off at a swimming hole.

The most northerly point on the official route is Cape Tribulation, following a start north of Brisbane. Participants can expect varied and picturesque scenery, including passing a smorgasbord of plantations – sugar cane, mango, coffee and bananas, and sections of twisty back-roads almost devoid of traffic and human habitation.

Registration for the 2008 TS Safari opens early in 2008 at the BMW Safari website. Both BMW Safari events will be backed by a comprehensive support team of BMW Master Technician for minor repairs as well as a Tyre Support Crew.
