Honda have unveiled the 2011 CBR250R, a sporty lightweight single. Design-wise, the CBR250R shows a clear influence from its big sister – the VFR1200.

Powertrain-wise, not so much, the little CBR250R is powered by a single cylinder 249cc fuel injected 4 valver. Still, with only 160kgs to push, and 26 horsepower, the little Honda will be both an ideal entry level machine, and a fun ride.

Honda would be hoping to claw a few sales of Kawasaki’s Ninja 250R -Australia’s top selling road bike if you discount the CT110 – which sports similar weight and horsepower figures, albiet from a twin cylinder engine. The CBR250R will be manufactured in Honda’s Thailand plant, and sold worldwide.

Honda’s US press release aims the bike at new riders: “The CBR250R is specifically aimed at new riders, yet it’s packed full of high-tech features and offers great performance, all in a lightweight, affordable package. This new model expands another segment of the market for Honda buyers.”

According to early press releases, the 2011 CBR250R will be made in both ABS and non ABS models, in 3 different colour schemes, Black, Red and Silver like the VFR1200, and a traditional tri-colour red/white.blue scheme. Just exactly what, and when, we get in Australia remains to be seen.

We will update shortly with those details, along with an expected retail price. It would certainly be a nice addition to the ranks of the LAMS legal bikes.
